National Dog Day Fundraising Ideas

The 26th August is National Dog Day – A wonderful opportunity to celebrate the furry friends in our lives and incorporate a bit of fundraising too!

So let’s have a look at a few of our favourite fundraisers where we can get our beloved dogs involved.

Sponsored Dog Walking Fundraiser

We’ve dedicated a whole blog to this one back when it was Dog Walking Month – Check it out for our top tips and hints for organising a safe and successful dog walking fundraising event.

Don’t forget to remind your attendees to encourage friends, family and colleagues to sponsor their efforts! Extra points for cute dog photos to bribe them into it…

Share a Dog Walking Route

If your charity operates in a particular location, you could create some maps with some dog-friendly walks in your local area. Selling these as e-books could bring in even more donations for your cause!

Not only does this help raise more money, it also means that your supporters can find new places to walk their furry friends.

Online Dress-Up-Your-Dog Competition

Everyone loves a dog in a bow tie, right? Encourage your supporters to take a pic of their dog and enter an online competition – You provide the hashtag! Every entry requires a small donation to your cause, with the winners awarded something they can share with their beloved pet!

Webinar on an Expert Topic

Ask a local animal expert, trainer or vet if they would be willing to donate an hour or two of their time to host a Webinar of an interesting and popular topic that dog owners would pay to attend. All the proceeds go to your worthy cause!

Doppelganger Competition

They say that owners start to look like their pets over time. Or is it that the pets start looking like their owners? Either way, we think a competition of the best Pet-Owner doppelgangers would make a fantastic online or in-person fundraiser! And one that will get the attention of a wider audience on social media, raising awareness of your worthy cause.

Bone Appetit

Every one of our Fundraising Ideas lists includes a bake sale of some kind – Because they’re so effective! So why would this list be any different? The twist this time is to make the baked treats for our beloved four legged friends!

Terrific Tricks Talent Show

Everyone loves a talent show – Especially when it involves animals! What’s your dog’s best trick? Catch it on video as part of a virtual Talent Show online via social media – Live streamed or via recorded clips. Or host it in real life where the audience can really be a part of the fun.

Donate Your Skills – Pet Edition

Ask your local pet groomers if they would consider donating their time one weekend to run a pop-up shop for your charitable cause. People can bring their pets along for a clip and comb for a subsidised price, with all the proceeds going to charity.

Alternatively, you could ask them to donate a percentage of their profits for the week of National Dog Day to go to charity in celebration of our furry friends and your worthy charity work.

How Will You Fundraise?

Which animal fundraiser is your favourite? We’d love to see pictures of how you got dogs involved in your fundraising efforts this National Dog Day! You can tag us on Facebook and Instagram with your photos and fundraising stories.

Digital Fundraising is easy to Integrate with Donater

Our suite of online fundraising tools include:

A dedicated online fundraising page, personalised to your charity or good cause. Supporters will immediately recognise your branding and thus, trust that they are in the right place to make a donation. Online fundraising pages are easy to share online via a handy link, and can be easily linked to your website with a ‘Donate Now’ button.

QR codes. We’ve all become more accustomed to QR codes with the NHS Covid app, so you’ll know how quick and easy it is to scan one with your smartphone. QR codes can be just as handy for taking donations. All your supporter has to do is scan the QR code with their smartphone, and it will take them to an online donation page. Once there, they can choose to donate with a tap via Google Pay or Apple Pay, or pay with their bank details. QR codes are a great addition to any physical marketing about your event, such as posters or newsletters as well as transforming a traditional donation box into a mobile way of taking digital donations.

NFC Tags. Our NFC tags take the above QR code concept a step further, and enable any supporter of yours with an NFC enabled smartphone to merely tap the tag or sticker. They will then be taken to an online donation page where they can make their donation quickly and simply. These work better with in-person events, but could easily be placed at the entrance to your charity or on collection boxes so visitors can donate to your cause if they wish.
