How Can Your Charity Earn Donations Using the Clock Change?

It’s officially Spring and in our blog last week we shared some wonderful ways you can fundraise with the new season in mind. This time of year is a great time for reflecting, new beginnings and the hatching of new ideas and plans. This renewed energy is the perfect encouragement for us to get outside, embrace the Spring sunshine and get those donation buckets jingling.

When do the clocks change in March?

This Sunday, the 30th March, the clocks spring forward an hour. Could this bring with it the start of warmer weather and more sunnier days? (Spring showers are probably more likely!). 

The clocks going forward might mean we lose an hour, but we’re choosing to see it as a wonderful opportunity to seize supporters and motivate them to ‘Spring to Action’ for your worthy cause. 

Whether it’s through volunteering their time, or making a monetary donation, the start of a new season is always a good time to launch new fundraising plans to bring your community of donors together to enact vital change.

Whichever group you fall into, here are some fundraising ideas that are perfect for turning something as little as an hour into a fundraising opportunity. 

Donate An Hour of Your Time 

Lose it or use it? The concept of losing an hour of our time this clock change got us thinking about how else your supporters could use an hour of their time for good. 

Encourage your donors to put an hour of their time to good use by volunteering for your charitable cause. Whether it’s using their expertise to help with accounts or marketing, or bucket shaking at an event, something as little as an hour could really help. 

Ask them to pledge their hour now.

Buy Back an Hour

Time can be hard to come by and we don’t always have enough of it to go around. Let’s face it, every hour of your time as a charity is precious. Why not ask your donors and supporters to buy you back an hour by sparing an hour of their wages? 

Volunteering time can be tricky so if supporters can’t spare an hour of their time to volunteer, maybe they could donate an hour’s pay to your charitable cause instead? Ask donors to buy you that lost hour back. Here’s why a fundraiser as simple as this can work so well. 

Sport Challenges

What 60 minute challenges could be done to garner sponsorships? A sponsored swim, run, walk or cycle all make great sporty challenges! 

Encourage people to get involved and donate – Spending an hour doing a sports related challenge a couple of times a week is a very doable way to get people involved in fundraising.

How much can you sell in 60 minutes? It could be spring bulbs, blooming flowers, cakes, cookies – The list is literally endless! 

All you need to do is ask your supporters to sell something of their choice for one dedicated hour and see how much money they can raise! You could even tie this in with a Spring Fair or event with lots of different stalls selling different things. 

This fundraiser would work really well for community centred causes like school PTA’s or churches. Tack on a 60 minute sell-a-thon to the end of a school day or after a Sunday service and the donations are bound to pour in.
