Whether you’re stuck in the office or working from home (maybe whilst trying to entertain the kids!), these Olympic themed office fundraisers are bound to get everyone feeling some team spirit – In person or via Teams! You could even get the kids involved.
Whether you are wanting to fundraise for a certain charity close to your heart, or you’re part of a charity yourself looking for fundraising ideas, we’ve got you covered.
So let’s dive in and help you leap over those fundraising hurdles for a sprint finish worthy of a gold medal.
Here are 10 Olympic themed activities for your fundraiser – Plus ideas for your closing ceremony!
Olympic Themed Fundraising Ideas
Javelin
Pens at the ready! Who can throw their pen or pencil the farthest? Make sure anyone taking part online either does it live with the rest of the team, or takes a video!
You could also have a competition to make their own javelins out of household items – great for getting any children on their summer holidays involved!
Discus
Find a big open space and grab a frisbee. See who can throw it the furthest – Go for gold! We don’t recommend this one takes place inside the office!
Sprint
If you’re lucky enough to have some outside areas on your premises, then get all the sprinters involved in a real life race.
Contestants competing from home can use a sports tracking app to prove their record-breaking time at their local park.
Desk Chair Relay
If you do have enough people back in the office and a nice long corridor, this is bound to get those competitive juices flowing and is sure to get a few laughs as well!
This one is a bit tricky for those at home, so instead they could place their bets on who they think will win in the office – Each bet is a donation!
Running and Rowing
If you can get your hands on a rowing or running machine, then set yourself a marathon challenge! How about a sponsored row or run to Paris, shared between colleagues?
Participants can secure sponsorship money from friends, family and colleagues for clocking up their miles.
Basketball
We all know those colleagues who attempt to throw their rubbish in the office bin – And miss every time. If you think you’ve got what it takes to win then set up recycle bin basketball in the office and see who can get the most bits of scrunched up waste paper in the basket.
Those joining in from home can measure the same distance and set up their own bin basketball for when it’s just too much to get up from the kitchen table and go to the bin. Win-Win!
Archery
Rubber bands at the ready! Offices always have a stash of elastic bands, but how often do they actually get used? This gives a whole new meaning to the word ping!
Set up a target and have individuals or teams take turns to ping their elastic bands as close to the bulls-eye as possible.
Dressage
Now for a bit of horsing around. Have contestants make up a routine in pairs – One person is the debutante and one person is the horse. 3 medals to the 3 best routines!
Olympic Torch
Get those creative juices flowing and ask your colleagues to create their own Olympic torch to be used in your closing ceremony. Prizes for the best three – Gold, Silver and Bronze!
Olympic Quiz
Test your colleagues knowledge of the 2024 Olympic Games with an Olympics themed quiz! How much have you been watching? Take donations for taking part and give prizes (or medals!) for the best team names!
Closing Ceremony
At the end of the week, tally up all the points and give out prizes to your 3 Gold, Silver and Bronze winners.
If the weather is good, you could host an outdoor BBQ (another opportunity to raise money) and invite all your colleagues, friends and family. What’s better than a bit of friendly Olympic-themed fun – Whilst fundraising for a worthy cause.
How does all this raise money?
There are multiple opportunities for fundraising with these Olympic themed activities.
- Online fundraising – You can raise money online by asking for sponsors and digital donations – Each contestant can ask friends and family to sponsor them to enter their particular sport.
- Competitions – People can pay a small fee to enter competitions, like creating an Olympic torch or entering the quiz. Don’t forget to ask local companies to sponsor your fundraiser by donating prizes!
- Communicate your Cause – Whether you’re a charitable organisation or just raising money for one, make sure everyone knows about the amazing reasons behind your fundraiser. Share where all the money raised will be going, and we’re sure that the donations will come flooding in.
How can Donater help you to fundraise online?
Here at Donater, we’re passionate about providing charities and not-for-profits with an affordable way to introduce digital infrastructure to their fundraising initiatives and help them to raise more money online.
Our suite of online fundraising tools include:
A dedicated online fundraising page, personalised to your charity or good cause. Supporters will immediately recognise your branding and thus, trust that they are in the right place to make a donation. Online fundraising pages are easy to share online via a handy link, and can be easily linked to your website with a ‘Donate Now’ button. A Donater online fundraising page could be geared specifically to your Olympic themed fundraiser.
QR codes. We’ve all become more accustomed to QR codes with the NHS Covid app, so you’ll know how quick and easy it is to scan one with your smartphone. QR codes can be just as handy for taking donations. All your supporter has to do is scan the QR code with their smartphone, and it will take them to an online donation page. Once there, they can choose to donate with a tap via Google Pay or Apple Pay, or pay with their bank details. QR codes are a great addition to any physical marketing about your event, such as posters or newsletters.
NFC Tags. Our NFC tags take the above QR code concept a step further, and enable any supporter of yours with an NFC enabled smartphone to merely tap the tag or sticker. They will then be taken to an online donation page where they can make their donation quickly and simply. These work better with in-person events, but could easily be placed at the entrance to your charity or on collection boxes so visitors can donate to your cause if they wish.

If digital fundraising was an Olympic Sport… We’re pretty sure we’d be on that podium.
