Fundraising Ideas for Afternoon Tea Week

This week (the 7th to the 13th of August) is Afternoon Tea Week. Us Brits don’t need much of an excuse to enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake, do we? But Afternoon Tea Week sounds like the perfect opportunity to make a fundraiser out of one of our favourite past times.

Here are some of our favourite Afternoon Tea themed fundraising ideas to get you started.

5 Afternoon Tea Themed Fundraisers

Host an Afternoon Tea

That one was pretty obvious, no? Coffee Mornings and similar hosted events are super popular fundraisers. They’re effective, easy to do and are bound to bring in supporters. Whether it’s at someone’s house with friends and family, hosted by a business or run as a stand-alone event, who can turn down a dainty sandwich and cream-covered scone all washed down by a lovely cup of tea?

Afternoon Tea Themed Bake Sale

If the idea of hosting an Afternoon Tea doesn’t appeal, then why not run a bake sale instead, themed to afternoon tea? A business could easily do this as a lunch option for staff, plus lots of other community based organisations could raise vital funds by selling simple sandwiches, cakes and cups of tea to visitors and passers by.

Afternoon Tea Baking Competition – Online or In Real Life

With the popularity of Great British Bake Off on our TV screens, every avid baker wants to try their luck at a sausage roll or Victoria sponge these days! Hosting a baking competition is a great way to let amateur bakers show off their skills at the same time as raising some money!

Run in real life, you could use the entries as items to sell afterwards to raise even more funds! Or you could run it online, where people make a donation (as an entry fee) and then share a photo of their bake. It’s all visual for this one – No tasting! But could bring your charitable cause to a new and wider audience.

Afternoon Tea Chatty Cafe

We’ve included Chatty Cafe’s (or should we say Chat-Tea Cafes) on a few of our fundraising ideas lists – They are such a great way of offering a place for people in your community to come together and enjoy the company of other people. It can be a real life line to those who feel isolated, and for a small fee for a sandwich, slice of cake, cuppa and chat it’s a great way to raise funds for your cause whilst helping those in your community.

Add-On Afternoon Tea to Another Summer Event

Already running a summer event? Perhaps it’s a fete or another community get together  during these summer months (It is summer isn’t it? All this rain got us thinking it’s October). An Afternoon Tea stall would be a great food option to have at any summer event! The food is simple to make and keep fresh, and it provides an ideal light bite for any of your guests whilst simultaneously putting coins in your donation pot.

Go Digital With Online Fundraising for Your Charitable Cause

Digital fundraising is easy to integrate with Donater, using our suite of online fundraising tools:

A dedicated online fundraising page, personalised to your charity or good cause. Supporters will immediately recognise your branding and thus, trust that they are in the right place to make a donation. Online fundraising pages are easy to share online via a handy link, and can be easily linked to your website with a ‘Donate Now’ button.

QR codes. We’ve all become more accustomed to QR codes with the NHS Covid app, so you’ll know how quick and easy it is to scan one with your smartphone. QR codes can be just as handy for taking donations. All your supporter has to do is scan the QR code with their smartphone, and it will take them to an online donation page. Once there, they can choose to donate with a tap via Google Pay or Apple Pay, or pay with their bank details. QR codes are a great addition to any physical marketing about your event, such as posters or newsletters as well as transforming a traditional donation box into a mobile way of taking digital donations.

NFC Tags. Our NFC tags take the above QR code concept a step further, and enable any supporter of yours with an NFC enabled smartphone to merely tap the tag or sticker. They will then be taken to an online donation page where they can make their donation quickly and simply. These work better with in-person events, but could easily be placed at the entrance to your charity or on collection boxes so visitors can donate to your cause if they wish.
