You may have noticed that this week is National Doughnut Week. A week where participating bakers up and down the country sell doughnuts to raise money for The Children’s Trust. All the money raised goes towards this national charity and the vital work they do to provide specialist care and rehabilitation for children with disabilities.
Whatever your charity organisation – Big or small – Selling doughnuts is a simple but great way of raising money for any given cause. Not only is it easy to organise, but it can also be held at any time of year and is easily combined with other fundraisers and events.
What will I need for a Doughnut Fundraiser?
There’s not much that you’ll need to get your doughnut fundraiser off the ground. The main things you will need are:
- Doughnuts (obviously)
- Tables to sell them on
- Paper bags to put the doughnuts in
- A collection box that can take both cash and digital donations (more about this later on)
- Plenty of volunteers to help make the fundraiser a success
Consider speaking to local businesses like bakeries, cafes, shops and supermarkets – Both chains and local independents – And see if they would be interested in either donating some of their produce or selling it to you at a reduced price to help you cause. This is particularly useful if you are thinking of making this fundraiser a regular thing.
What’s the best time of year for a Doughnut Fundraiser?
This fundraiser works really well all year round. It’s a great addition to fetes and fairs as well as a stand alone fundraiser.
It can be helpful to think about what you are raising money for, and whether this fundraiser would fit in well with events already in your calendar. Try to coincide your doughnut fundraiser with times when there is a large footfall of people – For example, if you’re a school PTA then maybe the end of the day at pick up would be a good time.
Doughnuts are easy to theme
Doughnuts are such an easy thing to theme! Perhaps some pink and red treats for Valentine’s Day, spooky pumpkin doughnuts at Halloween or festive doughnuts at Christmas time – The possibilities are endless! Theming your doughnuts is a great way of motivating your supporters to get behind your cause.
